8th scientific-practical conference “Far Eastern Internet Forum-2009,” conducted as a part of the Russian Internet-Marathon, started yesterday, on May 27th.

The purpose of the event is to gather all the participants of the telecommunication market of the region and to encourage an effective discussion between them.

The discussion was opened by a representative of the Regional Social Center of the Internet Technologies (RSCIT), who talked about how to effectively use a 30-million audience of the Russian Internet, and about hidden in the Web financial opportunities for businesses.

The forum gathered more than a hundred representatives of different spheres of the society: government, businesses, non-profit organizations. They are programmers, web-designers, software and hardware developers, media and government representatives of the Far East. For two days, they will be discussing a variety of issues of the current Internet-community: from technological needs of Internet users and providers or issues of new domain integration to the content of the Web and its regulation.

The forum is also unique from the organizational point of view. It’s the first time in the history of the conference when all the participants who own netbooks, laptops and Smartphones with Wi-Fi are provided with free 54 Mb/s access to the resources of the net. As the result, they can demonstrate their projects in real time.

At the end of the forum, on May 29, the Far Eastern Internet-award “Sterh-2009” will be given away. It is awarded annually for a significant impact development of informational resources of the Web, for the use of the Internet-based technologies for social development, and for outstanding educational and journalistic work.
